The season we've been waiting for has finally arrived! It's time to don beach gear, lounge poolside, explore local parks and playgrounds, and (safely) soak up the sun. After a harsh winter, we're all in need of some R & R.

Even the little ones are in need of the summer break. If they're enrolled in camp or summer programs, they're likely looking forward to making new friends and reuniting with old ones. Discover the appeal of such bonding in "Camp Friendships" by Jess Michaels, who points out why these relationships work and are so important.

You may also be celebrating a special day soon in addition to the seasonal change. Find the perfect party place, entertainer, or service in our Birthday Directory. It's filled with tons of options to fit your child's personality. To supplement your party planning, turn to Kelsey Banfield's "Six Tips for Easy Entertaining." The author discusses different ways to limit stress and up the fun factor for you and your guests.

Another day of note this month honors our dearest dudes. Show Pops how much you care this Father's Day by entering the Me and My Daddy Photo Contest for the chance to win a great prize. And surprise him with Angeli Zankel's D.I.Y. photo-based project from "Coaster Craft." The personalized keepsakes can be made with kids.

Of course, the key to a wonderful summer is safety. In addition to practicing good skin care and sunburn prevention, get educated about traumatic brain injuries that can occur during sports and other activities. "Childhood Concussions" by Dr. Alisa Gean explains why these types of injuries affect children differently than adults and presents symptoms of which parents, coaches, and caregivers should be aware.

Need ideas for how to avoid the dreaded "B-word" now that school's out? With our extensive Calendar of Events, you won't have to hear "I'm bored!" And when you need a respite, visit The Sandbox Social blog to see what other parents are up to, as well as our Contests & Giveaways page to enter to win fantastic prizes.

Have a sweet start to summer!
