Winter and its many festivities are upon us! PARENTGUIDE News wants to spread the holiday cheer.

This issue is chock full of prizes and giveaways for our readers. Check out “Top Toys” to see our favorite gift picks for every child, and enter contests for a chance to win each present! As the year winds down and you reflect on all the memories you and your children have created in 2013, share with us your favorite one captured in a snapshot. Submit your photo to the Family Favorite Photo Contest for a chance to win a De’Longhi AC230 Air Purifier or tickets to Broadway’s Cinderella.

Resolutions are being made, and it’s a great time to teach your children about such commitments — in particular, those they’ve made to hobbies, programs, and activities. Whether your kids are budding athletes or artists, they might go through a phase of wanting to throw in the towel (or paintbrush) when it comes to attending programs. Author Rich Brugger offers six ways to deflect thoughts of giving up in “Hearing, ‘I Quit?’.”

Our Program Directory features many options for children still looking for their niche and to try something new. You’re sure to find an activity within its pages for every type of interest.

Thinking of skipping town with the family during this wonderful but hectic time of year? Princess Ivana Pignatelli Aragona Cortes lends insight on traveling with children during holidays in “Traffic, TSA, and Tantrums, Oh My!” The real-life princess and mom suggests helpful tips to reduce stress and make your vacation a memorable one.

More parenting tips abound in “It’s Autism” by Andy and Melissa Areffi. The authors have three children with autism, and their article shares advice on how parents can cope when a child is first diagnosed with the disorder.

Happy holidays and New Year!
