Midnight....the witching hour. Wheeeeeew....what a long day. A good one, don't get me wrong. But a long one just the same. Just dragged myself through the front door of my house after spending the day bonding with friends and neighbors at my neighborhood block party. I have to admit that originally, the thought of spending twelve hours in hundred degree summer hear wasn't exactly getting me all warm and tingly inside. Turned out to be a really really nice day though. Thank you to Sylvia and Sandra...two awesome party planners and friends...for getting everything together for us. Allready can't wait for next year's...lol. A block party usually means alot of people...and a lot of people usually means a lot of food...and this day didn't disappoint. I heard the ribs were to die for. The beer and sangria looked refreshing. The baked ziti and meatballs smelled incredible (Italian food is my FAVORITE!). And someone told me that the home-made cookies and brownies were like a gift from heaven. I am going to just have to take everyone's word for it though...because I stayed away from all of those things. Wasn't easy either, let me tell ya. And just for the record I am far from a saint.

I am a flesh and blood human being who loves good food even after struggling with it his whoooole life so far. The struggles go on...and on...and on. I had a cheeseburger (no bun) to start the day. Had a reeeeaaaallly tasty piece of bbqed chicken to end the day. In between I made sure to stick with "safe" choices like salads, fruits, nuts and my old stand-by...wheat thins. I enjoyed myself immensely...may have eaten a little more of this or a little too much of that...only the scale will know for sure. But I definitely tried to be smart about it. I also tried to keep myself moving. Got in our neighbor's pool for awhile, shot a few baskets, tossed the football around...your typical block party excitement...and the heat definitely takes it's toll on you too. Which brings us to the here and now. It is approaching 12:30am and I am actually going to give myself a break from the basement tonight. Going to get a good night's sleep and then hit it hard again tomorrow. Also hoping that since my schedule isn't too bad for the day, I can get another "double shot" of workouts in....starting with a good long run first thing in the a.m. That is the plan anyway. I'll let you know tomorrow night how it works out for me.
