Today was day one of my four day weekend for the 4th of July. Gotta love it. I will be working my second job for just about the entire weekend. But it's still a holiday weekend and I will happily take what I can get. Thinking about the barbecues and the get-togethers happening all weekend long. I am also happily looking ahead and thinking about so many of the other special occasions that are on the horizon for me this summer. Dinners, getaways, blockbuster summer movies, celebrations, road-trips, 40th birthdays and more. Busy, busy, busy. Bring em on…I can't wait! On top of all that (as if that wasn't enough), there are two other special events happening just a little more than a month from now that truly have me counting down the days. The first is the annual Runyon 5K run for Cancer that is held INSIDE Yankee Stadium. I did it for the very first time last year, along with some of my fellow “PG Miracles” from the office. It is a 3.2 mile course that actually takes you through the corridors of the stadium, up the stairs, through the tunnels and finally, out on the field. With your friends and family sitting in the stands behind home plate, you get to circle the field twice while the participants are shown on the jumbotron. I can honestly say it was an unforgettable experience…one that I am looking forward to re-creating again this year. I did the entire course in just about 39 minutes and took home a medal for my efforts. I will proudly add another medal to the one I already have, while I push to see if I can improve my time from last year. The other event that I have coming up is a much more personal one. On Saturday, August 13th I will be in Windham, NY for The Warrior Dash.

The “craziest frickin day of your life” is how they market it. And who wouldn't want to be part of THAT!?! For anyone reading this that doesn't know, I trained my ass off (literally – lol) for the Warrior Dash LAST year. Getting prepared for the 3 mile course with about 10 obstacles mixed in along the way was a HUGE source of inspiration for me. Not to mention one of the reasons I started blogging in the first place. But alas, all my efforts didn't quite pan out. Instead of making it to Windham, a surprise hernia would get me only as far as my local emergency room. I set a LOT of goals for myself last year…and the Warrior Dash was really the ONE thing that I set out to do and didn't accomplish. So needless to say there is a feeling of unfinished business here…and I can't WAIT to be a part of it…AGAIN! This year I will join my friends and co-workers as they earn their Viking helmets and become true warriors. The coolest thing in all this…a fact that has not been lost on me from day one…is that without all the weight that I have lost up until this point, I wouldn't be able to do either of these events. I was much too heavy, much too insecure, and much too down on myself to do anything so out in public like either of these events. But those days are over for me…long over! Now I CAN do anything I want…and I WILL do anything I want. Starting with my run through Yankee Stadium and the Warrior Dash. It is a greeeaaaat feeling to know that you can change your path in life. You can make a difference to yourself and to the people around you. I know I did. And let me tell you just in case I haven't said it before. If I can do it…..ANYONE can!

And that's pretty much it for me…for now. Have a great 4th of July weekend. Be safe and have fun. And special 4th of July weekend birthday wishes to Miss Kimmy Moore (the 1st), Miss Jessica Marie Wilson (the 2nd) and my Uncle Kenny (the 4th). If there is anyone else celebrating this weekend that I forgot to mention I am really sorry. It is late and I haven't slept much tonight…so mistakes get made sometimes. Have fun gang...don't be afraid to push yourself and try something new!

ENJOY VERYONE!
