Before I start typing away, let me just say that I am dedicating today's blog post to my cousin Meghan, my aunt Barbara, my brother Ned, my best friend Donna and anyone else that I have locked horns with recently on this particular topic. It is a pretty long list of people to be honest. That topic, in case you were wondering, is...bacon. Now before I get into that, let's go back a few days. My wife, my daughter and I had a great time over the 4th of July weekend. I spent a good part of it working, unfortunately. Actually there was nothing “good” about it. Lol. But I also made sure to spend as much time as possible with my friends and family too. It is always about finding that middle ground for me. But anyway, back to my story. We had a few special houseguests spend the night with us from Saturday into Sunday. Barbecued all day, spent the afternoon in the backyard and had a lot of laughs in general. I reluctantly had to excuse myself from the festivities to go to work at around 9:30pm. Ended up crawling back through the front door of my house and into bed at somewhere around 4am. I was in a DEAD sleep. The much-needed kind you wish could last forever. I finally fell out of bed a few hours later. Dragged myself downstairs to be met by the smell of bacon coming from my kitchen (UGH!). That might be business as usual at breakfast-time for you. But anyone who knows me knows that is a BIG no-no in my house. Not only that, but it was being cooked in the same pan that I use for my egg whites. Really!?! Was that reeeeaaaaallly necessary? As you can probably tell, I am not a bacon fan. Never have been. Even back when I was at my worst when it came to food. And I was someone who at one point pictured the paramedics cutting out a wall to get to me one day....it was getting that bad. Bacon just didn't do it for me I guess. The problem is that it very much DOES do it for my daughter....great.

I firmly believe that the success I had in my own weight loss journey over the past few years can't actually be considered a true success unless I can influence and help other people as well. And of course the person I am most concerned about in the entire world is my amazing daughter Meghan. Through no fault of her own, Meg inherited her father's terrible eating habits and sickengly slow metabolism. A deadly combination. Sorry honey. While I can't help what she was stuck with gene-wise, I CAN provide her with an example of what path to follow in life. Not to mention that I can share with her the experiences that I had growing up and hope she makes the right choices when the time comes. Now I have to say that I am pretty easy going when it comes to certain foods. If you're lucky you can probably convince me that there is some sort of nutritional value to french fries because they used to be potatoes once. You can also convince me that every kid actually NEEDS a little ice cream once in awhile. Hell, on the right day you can probably even convince me that ketchup is a vegetable (probably not). But what you will never, ever, EVER get me to approve of...is bacon. I just don't get it. Bacon is nothing but salt, grease and fat (I guarantee the people I dedicated this blog to read just that sentence and said, “yeah, and?”). Ha ha ha ha. But there is absolutely NOTHING in bacon that anyone needs in their body. Aside from the fact that it tastes good going in. Which of course, is why my daughter seems to want it ALL the time. I definitely stand my ground on that one. Even when our closest family and friends tell me I am crazy for keeping it from her. You have to draw the line somewhere. I draw mine right around the belly of the pig (cuz you know, that is where the bacon comes from. HA!). And now if you will excuse me, I have to go and buy myself a new egg white pan!

Oh and by the way.....not to dwell on this TOO much...but here is Wikipedia's definition of bacon: Bacon is a cured meat prepared from a pig. It is first cured using large quantities of salt, either in a brine or in a dry packing. MMMMMM, where do I get on line for THAT? Ha ha ha ha.
