Finally, a Warrior
Over a year and a half ago when I started training for the Warrior Dash, I titled my original blog "A Warrior in Weighting." Mostly because I love a good play on words. But also because I thought it was a fitting title for someone in training. Well today...after more than a year of waiting...we can finally change the title on that piece of business in my life from "unfinished" to "finished. My trainer Jonathan always told me that you are what you do. So I am happy to say that today I am a Warrior! This morning, under a warm summer sun upstate in Windham, New York, I stepped on the field of battle with a few of my co-workers and a whoooole lot of other people too. I got there JUST in time to register and get on line with my friends before the whistle blew and we were off. Didn't get much of a chance to think about it or worry about it much. It was time to just get moving...probably good that it worked out that way. For the next hour or so, I braved freezin cold water, rope ladders, tires, cars, barbed wire, fire, woodland trails, and one GIGANTIC hill to get to the finish line.
On the way to Windham this morning a friend of mine who did "the Dash" last year told me that there will be a point during the run where I will ask mysely WHY in the world I signed up for this. I have to say that that point came for me about five minutes in. The very first thing you have to tackle is a walk/run straight up the mountain. And I am talkin STRAIGHT...up! They definitely test you right off the bat, that is for sure. But I got through that and everything else...and after missing out on the chance to run last year...I can finally call myself a Warrior. It was an awesome experience and a great personal victory for me. I am so happy that I finally got the chance to do it. It was a LOT of fun without a doubt...and one hell of a party afterwards too...but there is nooooo way I could have done it in the shape I was in two years ago. However, a little hard work and dedication pays off in HUGE dividends. Who knew? Lol. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to challenge themselves and have some fun. I already can't wait til next year. I will be there again...hope I see a few new faces there too!
Been a long day...getting ready to crash out.
Hope you are having a good weekend too!
