A Sunday Surprise
Today was my favorite kind of day!
I have had some great personal success in my own physical and mental journey towards better health in the past year and a half or so. But I have said from the very beginning that this is about so much more than just me. I won't be able to consider any of what I have done a true success unless I can eventually use what I have learned to help out other people too. I know it sounds kind of cliched...but it's the truth. Well I would like to think that today I saw my own direct influence come through someone else...and that is what made it one of my favorite kind of days. It also doesn't hurt that the person I had the effect on happens to the most important person in my whole entire universe. So what happened was this. I have been pushing myself the past few days doing both jobs. PARENTGUIDE from 9am - 5pm...deliveries from late in the evening til early the following morning. If you read my blog from yesterday, you know that I dragged my tired old bones through the front door of my house at about 4:45 this morning. After taking care of my blog and a few other little things, I crawled into bed at about 6am. At somewhere between 8 and 8:30 in the morning (it's all a blur when you've just gotten to sleep), I was jarred awake to find my daughter standing over me. "Wake up daddy," she said. Her angelic little face the only thing keeping me from losing it for waking me so damn early...lol. "Wuzzat...huh? Why?" I think is what came out of my mouth. I am generally pretty good with words. But on two hours sleep you have to grade me on a curve, thanks. Anyway...Meghan decided that she wanted to surprise mommy with breakfast this morning. She also decided that she should walk to the store with daddy to make said surprise happen. Now here are two things that you should know about me.
One...I have a hard time saying no to my daughter no matter WHAT she is asking for. And two...if someone decides they want to engage in some sort of physical activity (exercise-wise) and they want me to help, I'll pretty much drop whatever I am doing to be a part of it. So with those two things combined, I dragged myself BACK out of bed and a few hazy minutes later I was walking alongside Meghan in the summer sunshine. The store, as it turns out, is a mile and a half from my house (thanks ENDOMONDO!)...and I think today even Meghan got a little more than she bargained for...lol. The first mile she was awesome "we should do this EVERY day daddy!" In mile two she mentioned a few times how hot it was and how her legs were hurting. In mile three...ummmmm...she turned into a gremlin! Ha ha ha ha. She tried to jump into a neighbor's car as he passed us (she really did!)...and she was more than willing to sit by the side of the road while I ran home to get the car for her. BUT...griping aside, we got it done...3.3 miles total. I am so so proud of her. I told her that repeatedly and reminded her of how special she was. Not just because she wanted to so something nice for her mom...but because let's face it, I am willing to bet there wasn't a whole lot of other people (kids OR adults) walking three miles on a hot summer Sunday. Definitely a great way to start off my day today...tired or not. Not that I ever question whether or not what I am doing for myself is the right thing as far as my own journey goes, but it is definitely nice to see it effect someone you care about so much. Makes me want to keep on pushing...and I will. For me, for Meg and for anyone else in my life. That's pretty much it. Got a lot of stuff done around the house the rest of the day and am now getting ready to head out to job number two. Got the scale in the morning and another week ahead.
Thanks for checkin in everyone...have a great night!
